Should Guys Wear Cardigans?
Cardigans can sometimes be associated with old fashioned trends, something that’s "been there and done that" and isn’t really a fashionable item anymore. However, don't write them off just yet! Cardigans can be worn in a totally modern and stylish way, helping to highlight and enhance your style rather than hinder it. Here we hope to give you some cardigan inspiration, as well as the cardigan, do’s and don’ts to guide you when styling your fit.
So many male celebrities have mastered cardigan styling recently – both the slim and the chunky kind! For example, famous actor Ryan Reynolds is often spotted wearing a chunky cardigan with a complimentary t-shirt and jeans for a casual look!

As you can see, cardigans are far from out of fashion, and men aren’t excluded from wearing them either! These are just two examples of how a chunky cardigan or a thin V-neck cardigan can be the perfect addition to complete an overall outfit. If you're feeling inspired to get involved, here are some do’s and don’ts to bear in mind when styling a cardigan:
THE DO'S
OVER A T-SHIRT
For a super casual look, layering a cardigan on top of a t-shirt embodies effortless and easy style.

OVER A LONG-SLEEVED T-SHIRT
For those extra layers, a cardigan can also be paired with a long-sleeve t-shirt and still achieve that simplistic style that can be worn every day.
OVER A SHIRT
For a hint of formality, a shirt can be worn underneath a cardigan to bridge the smart-casual border and this can be paired with either jeans or chinos for a professional finish – this look would be ideal for a smart-casual working environment!

UNDER A JACKET
Again, for those layers, a casual jacket can complement a thin cardigan or contrast it for a striking mix of patterns or colours.
UNDER A BLAZER
To make the look more formal, layering a cardigan between a shirt and a blazer is a modern take on the classic suit and tie.
AS A JACKET
Chunky cardigans have the opportunity to be worn as outerwear as they are thicker, which means they can be styled with jeans or chinos and a t-shirt for a complete outfit.

THE DON'TS
DON'T GET THE WRONG FIT
Having a too small or too oversized cardigan can completely ruin the look you're trying to achieve. When considering the size and fit of a cardigan, remember to think about the layers you hope to wear under and on top of the cardigan – if it is too tight, you may not be able to wear a shirt underneath it, and if it is too big and baggy, you may struggle to get a jacket over it. It’s important you consider the way the cardigan will rest on your chest to maximise its style.

DON'T BUY A CARDIGAN WITH A TEXTURE THAT DOESN'T SUIT YOU
If you choose a cardigan that feels uncomfortable on your skin or restrictive to your movements, don’t purchase it, as you won’t wear it. You need to find a cardigan that you will feel comfortable in – if you want to avoid scratchy textures, look for a cardigan made from soft blends such as cotton.
DON'T GET THE WRONG LENGTH
If your cardigan is too long for your body, it makes the proportions look unusual and can hinder your attempts at layering underneath and on top. Measure the cardigan against your body and make sure you’re happy with the length before making a purchase.
